After years of being a Boston Marathon spectator, I decided that I wanted to try a marathon for myself. I ran track when I was younger, but have never been much for running distances. My longest race ever was a 10K, and that was over 25 years ago. I’ve also had trouble sticking to a training schedule on my own. I knew that if I was going to do this right, I would need a coach. Melissa has been great. The workouts were thoughtfully laid out and customized to my work/travel schedule and to how I was feeling physically. She took the time to answer all of my questions, provide me with helpful tips, and give feedback on my workouts. I was impressed with the amount of valuable information and insight she would provide in response to my questions.
Her approach to race day was meticulous – from what to wear, what to eat leading up to the race, my pace, knowing the course, knowing the water stops, etc. Early on in the training, Melissa had me practicing for race day nutrition (gels, drinking liquids from 8 oz. paper cups). So by the time the race came around, eating gels and taking on fluids was second nature. I was so well prepared for the race that I wasn’t at all nervous. The race played out exactly as Melissa predicted. I made sure not to go out too fast, settled into my pace, followed my nutrition schedule, and was actually able to pick up the pace toward the end of the race (which she also predicted). I ended up running a 3:21:16 for my first marathon and qualified for Boston. I don’t think I had ever been so well prepared for anything in my life. This program really works.
I just wanted to tell you how happy I was with Corey Kubatzky and the Hansons Coaching I received this summer. Corey helped me run a minute and a half marathon PR two weeks ago. I had never used a coach before but I had heard good things about the Hanson’s coaches and had followed the program on my own before. When Corey initially laid out my training runs for me, I thought they may be too aggressive. I can’t lie the runs were tough at first, but my body adapted and he pushed my running to places I didn’t think I could achieve. This summer I was in the best running shape of my life, ran the most miles I have ever run and did it injury free and I owe it to Corey and Hanson’s coaching. All summer I was looking forward to reaching my goal and finally getting a chance to rest but for some sick reason I already miss the workouts.
I am a 53-year-old life-long average marathoner, Coach Melissa on the Hansons squad has been tremendous to work with and she has helped me to step up my running. Because of Melissa’s training and positive encouragement I’ve set recent PR’s in the marathon and won age divisions in the 5k. Anyone interested in turning up their training in a positive environment should take a look at the Hansons team.
While very new to Hanson Coaching services, the experience so far has been a relentlessly positive one. Finding the group through Luke Humphrey’s excellent book on distance training, I was thrilled to find out that there was an option for a custom training program and personalized coaching. Going into my third recent marathon cycle I realized that while I had many thoughts, ideas and great input regarding training, I felt that placing my confidence in an approach was really the right thing to do. Having direct support of a terrific, world class runner as a coach was an unexpected bonus. I’m very much looking forward to the impact of the guided training both for my upcoming marathon and my future races.
After having a baby in October, I knew I needed some outside help to get back into racing shape. With high hopes for a sub three hour marathon, I decided to try out the Hanson’s Coaching Service. Working with my coach, Melissa, has helped me train smarter and run harder. After only four weeks of following a training plan that is tailored specifically to my needs, I set my 5k PR! With Melissa’s guidance and the individualized plan she has created for me, I expect to set another PR at the Run for the Red Marathon on May 18.
My experience over the last 10 months working with Corey has been fantastic! The original goal was to get me back on track in regards to marathon performance after having some great performances, but then suffering with two DNFs in a row. After the 2nd DNF, I reached out to Hansons coaching and signed up for the customized plan. By working with Corey, I was able to achieve this goal within a few short months and hit very close to my original PR. What is great is that I can now focus on working down my times through shorter races as well. The flexibility of Hanson’s Coaching to provide advice outside of just a marathon has been a nice surprise. I am a rather high maintenance runner when it comes to communication and Corey is always extremely responsive to any questions that come up. He is able to help beyond just a training plan and provides thorough feedback on my racing schedule and even racing tactics and goals. My workout feedback is reviewed several times a week and I enjoy getting the candid commentary that helps to pump me up with encouragement when I need it, but also to reel me in when I need a firm voice of reason as well. I’m excited to continue my work with Corey in order to get the most out of myself that I can! I highly recommend the Customized plan for anyone that wants a high level of communication and prefers a plan to be built week by week based on your personal goals and how you are progressing over time
My first marathon was the Chicago Marathon in October of 2013. I thought I was in decent shape and had try to follow your typical marathon training schedule. I considered myself and average runner and always had hit the time goals that I set for myself for shorter distances, however I realized that the marathon was another beast of its own. I ran a 4:08. I was so disappointed in my results, that is when I hired a coach with Hanson’s Coaching Services. My coach Melissa Johnson White, who is awesome and still my coach today, took over my training. My next marathon, Mercedes Marathon in Birmingham Feb 16, which was only 4 1/2 months after my Chicago disaster, I ran a PR of 3:33:49. Taking 35 minutes off my time in just 4 1/2 months is crazy. Anyone consider getting a coach or improving the their PR for any distances, I highly recommend giving one of the coaches at Hanson’s a try, its definitely worth it. Thanks again Melissa I owe it all to you!
There are countless books, webpages, and blogs that have plans that claim to get you ready for a marathon, and claim to get you faster, I never found these to be adequate for me. With HCS not, only was I able to get a plan that met my needs and budget, but I had access to my coach for modifications, suggestions and encouragement.vI wanted to get to the next level. Little did I know that the HCS would get me beyond the next level; every race this season I have had a PR and I am now placing in my age group; something that I never dreamed of.
I came on board with Hanson’s Coaching Services over two years ago. A friend of mine forwarded me an article on the Hanson’s marathon method and immediately started looking into it. Corey continues to take my running ability to the next level with PRs at several distances time and time again. Besides getting stronger and faster, Corey has accomplished this all while keeping me injury free. Over two years in the works and no injuries, that says a lot about Hanson’s Coaching Services.
Being relatively new to running, the coaching assistance and information I received was top notch and it was a pleasure to work with Brendan. He was articulate, informative, and concise with the training plans and communication. I was a little comprehensive at first when he was assigned to work with me seeing that he was relatively new to your stable of coaches. After the first couple of conversations his professionalism put me to ease with the feeling that he knows what he is doing and seemed like he has been doing it for years longer than his resume states.
I would rate my experience as 10 out of 10 and would recommend the Hanson Coaching Service to anyone. Thanks again for offering such a great program and I look forward to possibly further coaching in the future.
I’ve been a runner for most of my life, but didn’t tackle marathons until the year I turned 50. I ran 9 marathons with self-training, then finally broke down and enlisted Corey Kubatzky’s help for my 10th. Using his training plan and his coaching I hit a PR (cut 12 minutes off my previous PR) in the LA Marathon this year, in less than ideal conditions. Couldn’t have done it without professional training. I wholeheartedly recommend Hansons Coaching Services.
